The preliminary results of the biennial election (2026–2028 term) of the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) have been officially announced. Following a day-long peaceful voting process on Saturday, the Election Commission completed manual vote counting around 1:00 AM and declared the initial results.
According to the announced results, Dr. Md. Ali Afzal has been elected as President with 232 votes. Abdur Razzaque secured victory as Senior Vice President with 216 votes after a competitive contest. The active participation of candidates and enthusiastic voter turnout made the entire election process vibrant and engaging.
For the Vice President positions:
- Mohammad Akhtar Biswas was elected as Vice President-1 with 250 votes
- Abu Khalid Md. Barkatullah was elected as Vice President-2 with 255 votes
- A.F.M. Ubaidullah was elected as Vice President-3 with 234 votes
- Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid won the Vice President (Finance) position with 262 votes
In the Chattogram region, Mohammad Morshedul Hasan drew special attention by securing the highest vote count of 317 votes for the Vice President position.
For the Director positions, Mohammad Labib Billah topped the list with 338 votes, one of the highest in the election. Umme Jahan Arju and Habibur Rahman Habib secured second and third positions respectively, both receiving 304 votes.
Other elected directors include A.Z.M. Kamruddin, Captain Md. Shah Alam, Md. Khaja Najibullah, Sheikh Kamal, Md. Emdadul Hossain Sohel, Dr. N. Joha, Alhaj Professor Md. Faruk Ahmed, Tasnova Mahbub Salam, Md. Zahir Ahmed, Md. Zahid Hossain, Engineer Md. Mostafa Kamal, Md. Emdadul Haque, Md. Mahbubur Rahman, M. Fakhrul Islam, Engineer Manzurul Farhad Philip, Suruj Sardar, and Alhaj Golam Kibria Majumder.
From Chattogram, two directors—A.S.M. Abdul Gaffar Miaji and Saristha Binte Noor—were elected. Additionally, six members were elected to the REHAB Chattogram Regional Committee: Nur Mohammad, Engr. S.K. Nazim Uddin, Syed Irfanul Alam, Ashish Roy Chowdhury, Hrishikesh Chowdhury, and S.M. Shahidullah.
Three panels participated in the election. The Progressive Housing Business Forum won 15 positions, including President, Senior Vice President, Vice President (Finance), Vice President-2, Vice President-3, and 10 Director posts. The Housing Business Unity Forum secured 14 positions, including Vice President-1, Vice President (Chattogram), and 12 Director posts. No candidates from the Jagaran Panel were elected.
The newly elected leadership expressed optimism about working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the housing sector—including developers, buyers, investors, and relevant public and private institutions. They aim to address longstanding challenges such as policy complexities, high registration costs, limited bank financing, and slow approval processes.
The new committee is also expected to take effective steps toward creating a business-friendly and investment-supportive environment, ensuring modern urban development, and increasing access to affordable housing for the general public. Industry stakeholders believe that with coordinated efforts and visionary leadership, the real estate sector will gain new momentum and contribute positively to the national economy.
